If you are preparing for your first wound care visit to our office, you may be wondering what to expect. One of the many ways we will help is to make sure we provide the treatment and maintenance needed to help your wound heal as effectively and safely as possible. Here are just some of the things you can expect when you arrive for your first appointment.
The Examination
The first thing we will do when you come in for your initial wound care visit will be to perform a thorough examination. We will want to determine not only the kind of wound you have suffered, but also address the underlying causes of the issue you are experiencing. Once the testing is done, we will then provide you with a treatment program tailored to your specific needs. All of our treatments and techniques are the most advanced available.
Treatment
When the time comes to begin your wound care treatment, you can expect to visit us on a regular basis. We will also provide you with clear, detailed instructions on caring for the wound at home between your visits to our office. Follow these directions carefully, because doing so will greatly reduce the chances that you will suffer any complications.
Wound Maintenance
There are several things you can do on your own to lower your risk for developing any sort of infection. Eating a healthy diet will be extremely important, as will getting enough rest. Take all medications as directed by your doctor and make sure you come back for all scheduled follow-up appointments.
If you notice any sort of swelling or redness around the wound, you experience any pain or you see an increased amount of wound drainage (especially if the fluid is cloudy or the wound drains pus), contact your doctor immediately. You should also call your doctor if you notice a foul odor or strange smell coming from the wound or you have weakness, chills or a fever. Contact DFW Wound Care Center online or call us at (972) 665-6292 (Plano) or (972) 318-2383 to learn more.
