foot soresDiabetic foot sores may seem harmless at first, but if they are ignored or not treated properly, they can result in severe complications. Unfortunately, many people ultimately have to have a limb amputated due to an infection setting in after a seemingly minor wound. These are some of the ways that you can prevent this problem.

Foot Care

It is extremely important that you check for foot sores every day and use mild soap and water to wash them. You need to make this a routine every day, just as brushing your teeth. Dry your feet thoroughly, because any leftover moisture can result in a breakdown of the skin. If you go to a nail salon, you need to make sure its certification is up to date. Find out when it had its last state inspection and make sure all tools are sanitized properly. Do not be afraid to ask questions concerning the facility’s hygiene, because your health could depend on it.

You should also use foot cream on a regular basis to help prevent cracking and drying. Even a small crack can be a major problem for a diabetic, because it can lead to the spread of potentially dangerous bacteria. There is no need to purchase a special cream, because just about any moisturizer you can find at your local drugstore should be sufficient.

If you notice the signs of athlete’s foot or another type of fungus, treat it with an anti-fungal cream immediately. Something seemingly minor such as athlete’s foot can result in an infection. Also, check your toenails for any signs of infections such as abnormal thickness or darkening. (Zolpidem)
